Firm History

Our Firm History

The firm was incorporated on June 6, 1994 in the State of Texas as MetalMan, Inc. However, the name was changed to MetalMan Design/Build Corporation on September 16, 2003 to more accurately describe the services being provided. MetalMan’s initial project was as a subcontractor to provide the labor to erect a 20,000 square foot metal building in Saltillo, Texas. Because the company didn’t have any capital or credit, the founders did the work themselves. With the proceeds, a small fabrication shop was established, and the firm continued as a steel fabricator and erector for a year. MetalMan’s first general contract was for the U.S. Postal Service (USPS) in 1995 and was followed by six (6) other USPS projects.

In 1996, MetalMan was awarded its first Zoological project, the Kimberly-Clark Chimpanzee Exhibit at the Dallas Zoo. The $1,378,000.00 project was very successful and laid the foundation for a relationship with City of Dallas’s Park and Recreation Department that has continued for eighteen (18) years.

In 1997, the firm undertook its second zoological contract as a subcontractor to C F Jordan on the Exxon/Mobile Tiger Exhibit and Primate Row at the Dallas Zoo. In 1998, the U.S. Postal Service awarded MetalMan its first design/build project, a major expansion of its Processing and Distribution Center in Coppell, Texas.

MetalMan returned to the Dallas Zoo as a general contractor for the construction of the Endangered Species Carousel. Shortly thereafter, the firm was awarded the completion of Zoo’s Prime Meridian Restaurant after the initial contractor’s default. In 2005, MetalMan was awarded the Dallas Zoo’s first design/build program. Rapidly delivering seventeen (17) projects over a two-year period, the program was a huge success and an important milestone in the Zoo’s transformation.

Since the completion of the initial design/build program, MetalMan has continuously delivered successful projects to the Dallas Zoo as both a design/builder and a general contractor. As a joint venture partner with SEDALCO Construction Services, MetalMan enjoyed its greatest achievement in the delivery of the Giants of the Savanna Exhibit. The multi-award winning twenty-seven million dollar project was completed on time and in budget.

As of February 25, 2013, MetalMan continues to deliver successful projects to the Dallas Zoo. We are extremely proud to have been an integral part of the Zoo’s transformation to a world-class zoological park. It’s been exciting and rewarding to have delivered well over one hundred (100) projects with each one being on time, in budget and free of disputes.
